If you’re trying to find out which the best pond liner to use is, it’s worth breaking this down into a few smaller questions first. We can then help you identify the best liner to use for your project.
Our Pond liners are generally made of three materials, so the best pond liner to use depends on the requirements:
Goto PENNPLAN to know more.
EPDM Rubber, which stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, is a modern synthetic rubber substance. EPDM is a strong & durable material and sheet forms are widely used in roofs, and building facades it’s fantastic for ponds and lake liners!
PVC, which stands for Poly Vinyl Chloride, is a synthetic plastic polymer. PVC is widely used in many industries but it’s important to remember only non-toxic PVC should be used for ponds. PVC liners are relatively inexpensive, lightweight and fairly flexible in terms of movement.
Butyl Rubber, is a traditional synthetic rubber with a range of uses, including inners for tyres & inflatable balls, chewing gum and more. Butyl is very flexible and offers particularly good resistance to UV rays from sunlight; however, it is relatively expensive compared to EPDM and PVC.
The best pond liner material depends on the type and size of the pond you’re creating or looking to replace. We’ve created a pond material comparison table below showing the main pond lining options available.
The pond liner comparison table provides details on the composition of the materials, their features, sizes available, and the applications they’re most suited to. For more information on any of the lining materials, you can click on the ‘Brand’ table heading to visit the respective product page.
Although Butyl liner is not mentioned in the table or available directly on the website, mainly due to higher cost and suitable similar products such as EPDM entering the market, we do supply and regularly make Butyl liner for customers, with stock available. If you would like a quote for Butyl or to place an order for Butyl, please call us on .
We recommend that all liners are fitted with pond underlay to provide protection for the liner.
