The Riello RX 1.8MW premix burners, commissioned by contractor T-Squared, have shown exceptionally low NOx levels of just 9-10ppm (around 20mg/kWh) throughout the modulation range. The upgrade enabled the ageing cast-iron sectional boilers to comply with current and anticipated NOx regulations, as well as improving energy efficiency – thereby extending the life of the boilers.

Process heaters in American manufacturing industries consume a large amount of energy annually, about 38% of the manufacturing sector's total energy usage. Current heater designs have not changed significantly in decades and result in efficiency losses and higher costs. New ultra-low NOx burner designs are needed to increase efficiency, reduce emissions, and lower costs in compliance with more stringent environmental regulations. The ultra-low NOx burner being developed achieves very low NOx emissions without efficiency penalties through a novel combination of advanced lean premixed burners, internal flue gas recirculation, and optimized use of partially reformed natural gas.
