What is the use of fiberglass direct roving?

Fiberglass direct roving can be used directly in certain composite process molding methods, such as winding and pultrusion. Because of its uniform tension, it can also be woven into direct roving fabrics, and, in some applications, direct roving can be further short-cut.
Fiberglass direct roving fabrics are suitable for resin reinforcement systems such as unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl resins, epoxy resins, and phenolic resins.
Alkali-free direct roving is a high-performance reinforcing material widely used in hand-laid and mechanically molded products such as boats, containers, aircraft and automotive parts, furniture, sports facilities, and a wide range of other applications. Compared with the Alkaline chevron, the Alkali-Free chevron has the properties of an Alkaline chevron, while the Alkali-Free chevron has better strength, better weatherability, better modulus, and better alkali resistance.
Medium alkali fiberglass direct roving fabric (medium alkali chevron fabric): it has good corrosion resistance, is easy to be infiltrated by resin, has good adhesion between layers, can be suitable for all kinds of curved surfaces, and has high construction efficiency; meanwhile, it has the characteristics of fireproofing, flame-retardant, waterproofing, aging-resistant, weather-resistant, high-strength, and high-modulus, etc.. It is widely used as a reinforcing material of FRP base cloth and engineering plastics for acid medium, anticorrosive, heat preservation, fire-retardant, and waterproof material.
Medium alkali glass fiber direct roving cloth can be used for epoxy flooring, the role of fiberglass reinforced plastic base cloth and engineering plastics reinforcing materials, anticorrosion, heat preservation, fire-retardant, fire-retardant, waterproof materials, and so on.

Direct Roving for Thermoset Composites - Johns Manville

Direct roving – also called single-end roving – for thermoset composites is used in pultrusion processes and to produce woven fiberglass fabrics. During the fiberglass production the direct roving is treated with a silane-based sizing to ensure compatibility with thermosets such as UP, VE, and epoxy resins. The products made of this direct roving find their way into infrastructure, construction materials, transportation equipment, open mesh for abrasive materials / grinding wheels, building facades, road reinforcements and much more.

"StarRov® is a single-end roving (direct roving) ideal for thermosets. It is perfect for weaving processes as it provides a wide and uniform strand width which allows to produce a superior fabric without gaps."

What is a single-end roving (direct roving)?

A direct roving or single-end roving is manufactured by winding fiberglass directly into a clearly defined tex or yield. It is designed to be used mainly as an input for weaving processes, providing easy unwinding due to even tension, low fuzz generation and excellent wettability. It can be utilized in different process technologies, such as pultrusion or filament winding. The end-use composites applications can be found in infrastructure, building, marine, sport & leisure, and water transportation.

"Did you know that Johns Manville is capable of testing physical and mechanical properties as we are fully equipped with a magnitude of state-of-the-art laboratory testing devices. We can assist you in developing the product with the properties you desire."
