E-Glass is the standard fiberglass reinforcement material. S-Glass looks and handles exactly the same but is made from a higher-strength fiber which gives about 40% higher tensile strength, 20% higher modulus, and greater abrasion resistance. All have an aerospace-grade silane finish that is compatible with polyester, vinylester, and epoxy resins. This finish is superior to Volan and many other silane finishes in that it has longer shelf life and is less affected by moisture. If you are comparison shopping be certain you are looking at comparable materials. For a more in-depth discussion of fiberglass yarns, fabrics, and finishes, please see our Fabric Information page.
Our primary source for fiberglass cloth is BGF Industries, though we do use other mills for some materials. You may contact BGF for detailed information about their products. A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), covering all styles of glass fabric, is available on line.
When we reach the end of a roll while filling a fabric order we must start a new roll and the order will be in two pieces. If it is essential for your project that you have a continuous piece of material you must tell us that when you order. Orders for five yards or less will always be continuous. For fabric orders over five yards there will be an upcharge of 5% to guarantee continuous material.

The general properties of S-Glass are, by way of comparison, described in the E-Glass section, above. The same finish is used and the same MSDS applies. For a more in-depth discussion of the differences between E-glass and S-glass, as well as info on fiberglass yarns, fabrics, and finishes, please see our Fabric Information page. Several of our S-Glass fabrics are 8-harness satin weave construction using very fine yarns. These are not recommended for contact layup because the weave is so tight that it is very difficult to get all of the air worked out.
The styles marked with an asterisk * in the price table are seconds. Generally the defects that exist in second-quality fabrics are very minor and will not affect their use in ordinary laminates such as boats, paddles, auto bodies and the like. However, we cannot guarantee the quality of any seconds; they are sold as-is and, needless to say, must not be used in highly critical applications. We buy seconds when they are available. Please check our News Page for updates on availability and pricing of seconds.
